The poem below is written from the perspective of a fictional character for the purpose of worldbuilding in a larger story. I often write poetry to practice perspective taking with my characters, and to help build my understanding of their personalities, inner thoughts, and struggles.
Will fire reign upon us?
Will fire reign upon us?
When black skies break
And earth core shatters
Will fire reign upon us?
When war horns cry,
And bodies beat upon
The ground like drums
Whose rhythm reaps
Ancestors’ last breath
Will fire reign upon us?
When old clans fall
And blood fields besieged
With corpses even
scavengers won’t touch
The fire reigns upon us
When black wolf bares
His fangs, forgetting
All he once stood for
The fire reigns upon us
At cold day’s end
As silence descends
Upon this broken world
Across the field I see her then
As fire rains upon us.
